Benefits

Health (+ Dental + Vision) Insurance? Check. Unlimited PTO? As much as you like. And we do check in quarterly to make sure employees take advantage of the program. Holidays? We celebrate all Federal holidays and a day that should be a Federal holiday: Election Day. We also have a Time for Life Events and Family Leave policy, because life is unpredictable.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

It feels wrong to work in an industry that still carries the residual results of institutional racism without doing the hard work to address those issues. In an effort to build a stronger, more responsible agency, we:

  • Expanded our hiring practices, reaching beyond the usual suspects.

  • Have regular check-ins and agency-wide training sessions with experts in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Establish and communicate goals for our team and partners we work with to bring more diversity to the work.

For anyone interested in how our agency is approaching DEI, we put together our second annual report. The Cliffs Notes version? L|A still has a long way to go, but we are on the right track.

L|A University

We believe we are all here on this earth to actualize our best selves. Does that sound weird? Maybe so. In any case, we do offer a range of opportunities to develop and broaden skills, build networks, and learn more. We financially support our staff attending workshops, taking MasterClasses, and getting additional skills training. See, that’s not so weird, right?

The Experience

We want work to be more human, nice, positive, and supportive. Maybe it’s because we were raised by hippies, maybe because we found toxic work environments to be, well, toxic. Whatever the reason, we are transparent about our business decisions and practices with the whole staff.

We want to work with the very best, no matter where they live.

There is a story about when William Faulkner was a screenwriter out in Hollywood. He was tired of commuting into the studio everyday to write so he asked if he could write from home. The studio said “okay” and so he hopped the next train back to Mississippi.

If you want to work from home forever, so be it. If you want to work from home in Oxford, Mississippi, well, sure. Why not?

Culture @ L|A

In our experience, people who say “We’re fun!” are rarely fun. That said, we try to create an environment that is interesting, supportive, inspiring, and unique. We have a terrible softball team, but people still show up to play. We share new music with one another on Fridays. We host a sweet Bastille Day party (because the Marquis d’ Lafayette was very French). We have adopted elephants for everyone on the staff. We have all traveled off to Vermont together. We had a volunteer day at the animal shelter. We have put on wigs and played bingo.

Our culture is strong because everyone added to our team is encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. We will be even stronger when you do the same.
